Fuel and MPG

TFY Partner Drivers,

It’s been a few years since we have seen fuel prices spike this high in this short of time.  We understand your concerns, but remember just because prices go up, it should not substantially affect your take-home pay.  There are some examples below:

The difference between 6.2 MPG & 7.5 MPG is $.10/mile!

Cost per Gallon/Miles per Gallon=Cost per MileFuel Surcharge=Your Cost per Mile
3.81/6.2= $         0.610.421= $         0.19
3.81/6.5= $         0.590.421= $         0.17
3.81/7.0= $         0.540.421= $         0.12
3.81/7.5= $         0.410.421= $         0.09
3.81/8.0= $         0.480.421= $         0.06

So, here is where it gets interesting.  If fuel is only $3/gallon, check this out.  The difference is not as great.  6.2 vs. 7.5 is a difference of only .08/mile.

Cost per Gallon/Miles per Gallon=Cost per MileFuel Surcharge=Your Cost per Mile
3.00/6.2= $         0.480.29= $         0.19
3.00/6.5= $         0.460.29= $         0.17
3.00/7.0= $         0.430.29= $         0.14
3.00/7.5= $         0.400.29= $         0.11
3.00/8.0= $         0.380.29= $         0.09

I realize this a lot of math and spreadsheets.  but here is the bottom line:

The better fuel mileage you get as a driver, the more money you make!

If you are curious, this is how FSC rate is calculated each week:

If you get at least 6.2 MPG & keep your deadhead below 10% of your total miles, your direct fuel costs should never exceed $1.20/gallon.

For example, last week:

Total Fuel Costs for TFY drivers (company & IC’s):       $318,111.52

Divided by Total Gallons purchased:                              83484

 =Average Cost per Gallon:                                           $3.81/gallon

   OwnerOperator Portion:                                       $1.20/gallon

Fuel Surcharge to OO’s:

($3.81-$1.20=$2.61/6.2):     $.421/mile to Driver

That’s how it is figured every week.  If you want to see this data, it is readily available & updated each & every day.

Would love to talk with you about this if you have questions!

Thank you & as always, STAY SAFE!!!!
